Are you well on your way to getting back in to shape, losing those extra 10 pounds,  getting out of debt? (&#8230;the list could go on and on!)  This year not only can you slenderize your body, but you can slenderize your debt.</p>
<p><strong>Body</strong></p>
<p>1. Keep a food journal! <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/08/AR2008070800992.html">Studies </a>show that individuals who keep track of what they eat will lose twice as much weight.</p>
<p>2. Exercise everyday.  Even if it&#8217;s for 15 minutes, do it!</p>
<p>3. Eat smaller portions. It may take a week or so for your body to become accustomed to these smaller meals, but soon you&#8217;ll realize you don&#8217;t need 3 helpings to be full.</p>
<p><strong>Debt</strong></p>
<p>1. Spend less than you make.  It seems so simple, but many people spend far more than what they make.</p>
<p>2. Cut back on the small things.  Whether you enjoy going out to eat once a week or buying a new pair of shoes a couple times a month, cut back! You&#8217;ll be surprised how much you can save!</p>
<p>3.  Look into a Money Merge Account program.  <a href="http://www.unitedfirstfinancial.com">U First</a> provides a program where you can pay off your mortgage in less than half the time.  Now THAT is a new year&#8217;s resolution I can work for!</p>

Now that spring is over, the hype has past, and summer is well upon us, it’s time to start focusing on a different type of healthy… a healthy mind.  Life is full of twists and turns that we cannot always anticipate.  These mini bumps in the road can often cause our lives to become cluttered, our minds to become distracted, and bring unwanted stress into our daily lives.  By keeping our minds clear and healthy, we will in turn be able to keep our bodies healthy as we are better able to recognize what our we need.</p>

<li>Get      together with your friends for some “girl time”</li>
<li>Get at      least 7-8 hours of sleep every night if possible</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>America is suffering from a widespread epidemic: lack of sleep.  Not getting enough beauty sleep can take a toll on your overall health and new studies suggest that there is a definite relationship between lack of sleep and a myriad of health problems.  Some experts contend that not getting enough sleep can increase an individual&#8217;s risk for diabetes, heart disease, and even obesity.   It disrupts how our body functions, can heighten stress, decrease appetite, and increase dependency on stimulants, such as caffeine.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Losing weight doesn&#8217;t have to be a tedious or painful experience&#8230;most of us just make it that way.  It&#8217;s important to remember that when it comes to losing weight, all our little efforts add up, thought it may not seem like that.  The following are simple (dare I say easy?) ways to start helping you not only lose weight, but more importantly, begin to implement a healthy, wholesome lifestyle.</p>
<ul>
<li>Take before and after photos&#8230;in a swimsuit.  I would argue that (for most people) there is no better motivator than seeing a picture of you, out of shape and in a swimsuit.  Yes, it can be a sad, even depressing image but what better way to motivate you to get up and do something about it?  Once you have lost a few pounds, take another picture in your swimsuit, then another, and another&#8230;until you reach your ideal weight and look.  You&#8217;ll be surprised by the difference, and happy that you documented it.</li>
<li>Tell your family and friends about your endeavor to get in shape.  They will not only be your biggest supporter, but will hold you accountable should you stray.</li>
<li>Find &#8220;your&#8221; exercise.  This means finding a physical activity that you actually <em>enjoy </em>doing.  Think outside the box - dancing, playing tennis, swimming, and hiking are just a few of the countless ways to get exercise.</li>

<p class="MsoNormal">Now, normally I would be ecstatic to shed a few pounds and be on my way to a slender, better body, but a lack of not eating is never the way to obtain a healthy body weight you are happy with.<span>  </span>I only bring this up because I got a strict reprimanding from my doctor who was concerned I was not getting the proper nutrition that I needed.<span>  </span>Hanging my head in shame, I left his office with a new determination to get the body I want by hale and hearty means.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This means I have to be much more conscious not only of what I eat, but how much (in my case, making sure it is enough).<span>  </span>It is imperative to get enough calcium, fiber, and protein.<span>  </span>Don’t forget the fruits and veggies, and remember to eat lots of greens.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I have started taking snacks with me each day.<span>  </span>I throw a yogurt, an apple, or low fat pretzels to remind myself to eat something even when I am out and about.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">You should also consider taking a multi-vitamin to compensate for any vitamins you may be lacking.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
